Denison too much for Mount St. Joseph

The Big Red outshot visiting Mount St. Joseph 33-3 resulting in a convincing 18-1 victory over the Lions from Deeds Field-Piper Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Denison junior attack Jenny Strathern (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) scored three goals and had two assists to lead the DU scoring attack.  Sophomore Alex Thurner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) and Lisa Feroli (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) also scored three goals apiece.  Overall, 10 different Denison players contributed at least one goal in the win.

Mount St. Joseph scored their lone goal early in the first half when Chelsey Siefke scored an unassisted goal. Denison would answer with 11 straight goals to close out the first half with a 13-1 lead.

DU finished with 13 ground balls and won 13 of 17 draws.  Olivia Shiland (South Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham) and Lulu Carter (Greenwich, Conn./The Millbrook School) paced the Big Red with three ground balls each.

Denison improves to 4-2 on the year with the victory. They will open North Coast Athletic Conference play this Saturday when they travel to The College of Wooster for a 1 p.m. start.
