DU remains unbeaten in NCAC action with win over Wittenberg

The Denison men's tennis team improved to 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference West Division with a 9-0 victory over the Tigers of Wittenberg University on Wednesday afternoon in Granville, Ohio.

The No. 1 doubles tandem of Nate Hobrath (Strongsville, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and Matt McErlean (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) registered an 8-2 victory over Sergio Fishkin and Stephane Antwi.  Jared Connolly (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) and Tim Martin (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) edged Bobby Fisher and Craig Lods 8-6 at the second flight, while Evan Verbofsky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) and Adam Seeley (West Hartford, Conn./William H. Hall) defeated Rob Lehner and Andy Lamb, 8-2, at third doubles.

In singles play, sophomore Tom Cawood (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) knocked off Fishkin 6-0, 6-2 at the first flight, while McErlean notched a straight-set win over Antwi (7-6, 6-3) at No. 2 singles.  Also recording victories for DU were Hobrath Verbofsky, Connolly and Seeley.

DU improves to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while Wittenberg falls to 8-5 on the year and 1-1 in the league.  Denison returns to the courts on Saturday (April 3) when they take on Wabash and Calvin in Crawfordsville, Ind.  The match against the Little Giants is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., while the contest with the Knights is slated to start at 12 p.m.
