Denison blanks Earlham

The fifth-ranked Denison women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play following a 9-0 victory over Earlham College on Saturday afternoon in Richmond, Ind.

Kate Westenberger (York, Pa./Dallastown) defeated the Quakers Rachel Hawkins 6-0, 6-3 in No. 1 singles, while Alex Marcell (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy) and Jane Lent (Glenview, Ill./Cranbrook-Kingswood) picked up 6-1, 6-1 victories at second and third singles, respectively.  Senior Maggie Colvin (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange) shutout Earlham's Bailey Hall 6-0, 6-0 at the fourth flight, while Courtney Steiner (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian) and Elizabeth Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Park Tudor School) closed out singles play with straight-set wins and No. 5 and No. 6.

In doubles competition, Lent and Marcell posted an 8-1 decision over Hawkins and Alex Softness at first doubles.  Colvin and Westenberger knocked off Hall and Julia Berner-Tobin 8-2 at the second flight, while Steiner and Emhardt won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.

Denison (6-2, 2-0 NCAC) returns to action on Tuesday (March 30) when they host Wittenberg University.  Match time is slated for 4 p.m.
