Denison edges Bucknell

The Denison men's tennis team improve to 3-0 on the season following a 4-3 victory over Division I Bucknell University on Monday afternoon in Hilton Head, S.C.

The Big Red jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after taking two of three doubles matches.  Junior Nate Hobrath (Strongsville, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and sophomore Matt McErlean (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) picked up an 8-6 victory over Bucknell's Anton Kovic and Kelly Morque at No. 1 doubles.  The duo of senior Evan Verbofsky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) and sophomore Tom Cawood (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) posted a 9-7 victory at third doubles over Josh Katten and Clark Bogle.

In singles action, Cawood won in straight-sets over Gregg Cohenca at No. 1 singles (7-5, 6-1), while McErlean captured a three-set victory over Kovic by scores of 6-7, 7-5, 11-9.  In the fifth singles flight, junior Jared Connolly (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) defeated Zach Hascoe 2-6, 6-4, 10-4.

DU returns to the court on Tuesday (March 16) when they take on Wheaton (Mass.) in Hilton Head at 1:30 p.m.
