A roster of 12 Denison men's swimmers and divers closed out the three-day Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational with a second-place finish out of nine teams. Denison accrued 607 points over the course of the meet, finishing 160.5 points behind first-place Penn State-Behrend.
Sophomore Gabe Dixson (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) was the story of the day with an 11-dive score of 451.35 in the men's three-meter competition. The score landed Dixson in first-place out of 12 divers and will get him in the discussion for a berth to the NCAA Division III Championships in March.
Following Dixson in the three-meter dive was sophomore Jeremy Schwartz (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) who placed ninth with a score of 303.45. First-year diver Matt Poulos (Munster, Ind./Munster) took 10th place after scoring 298.35.
Joining Dixson on the winners podium on Sunday was sophomore Seth Lemon (Albuquerque, N.M./Bosque School) who won the 200 breaststroke in 2:11.29. Lemon also netted a fifth-place finish in the 200 IM and was part of the second-place 200 medley relay team along with Brandon Hullings (Ewing, N.J./The Pennington School), Kevin Naud (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and Pat Lombardi (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista).
Aside from Lemon's fifth-place showing in the 200 IM, senior Michael Cobb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) bested his teammate by less than a second in the event, posting a time of 2:03.10 to place fourth. He also turned in a seventh-place finish in the 100 butterfly which was led by Hullings who took third place in 55.08.
The 200 freestyle saw freshman Eric Fischer (Niwot, Colo./Niwot) take second in the event with a time of 1:47.35. Andrew Quinn (Naperville, Ind./Neuqua Valley) and Naud followed in third and fourth-place, respectively.
The final event of the Invitational was the 400 freestyle relay which was comprised of Dave Hallman (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), Lombardi, Quinn, and Fischer. The team touched in 3:16.38.
