No. 4 Scots too much for the Big Red

Box Score

The Denison Big Red dropped their first North Coast Athletic Conference contest of the season on Saturday evening at the College of Wooster.  The fourth-ranked Scots defeated DU 81-51 at Timken Gymnasium in Wooster, Ohio.

After Wooster's Matt Fegan opened the game with a layup, the Big Red answered with six-straight to take the four-point lead.  The Scots battled back to tie the game at 6-all four minutes into the half.  After some back-and-forth action, Wooster used a 26-10 run over the final 13 minutes of the half to build up a 38-21 advantage as the two teams entered the locker room.

After a strong start, Denison shot just 25 percent (6-for-24) from the field, while Wooster hit 44 percent (15-for-34) from the floor.  The Fighting Scots carried the first half momentum into the second 20 minutes as they notched their second NCAC victory of the season.

Sophomore Dimonde Hale (Columbus, Ohio/Northland) led the Big Red with 13 points, while senior Larry Farmer (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) chipped in 10 points and a team-high five rebounds.

Nathan Balch and Ian Franks paced Wooster with 14 points each, while Justin Hallowell logged 13 points and a game-high 12 boards.

Denison (4-3, 1-1 NCAC) returns to action on Wednesday (Dec. 8) when they host the Tigers of Wittenberg University.  Tip-off from Livingston Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
