Big Red notch dual meet victory over Kenyon

After a pair of narrow losses to Ohio State and Cleveland State on Friday night the Big Red bounced back with a 135-104 victory over rival Kenyon College from the Mike Gregory Pool in Granville.

Denison posted seven victories and were paced by Lindsay Zeberlein (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) and Ksenia Golovkina (Newton, Mass./Newton South) who each posted a pair of wins on the day.  Zeberlein and Golovkina started the meet off with teammates Gail Blachly (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and Morgan Nuess (Kettering, Ohio/Dayton Christian) for the win in the 200 medley relay and a time of 1:47.88.

Later in the meet, just as she did the previous night against Ohio State and Cleveland State, Zeberlein won the 100 backstroke in 59.33.

In the second-to-last event of the morning, Golovkina posted her second win by taking the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.09.  First-year Natalie Lugg (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury), who won the 200 IM earlier in the day, placed second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.84.

In the 200 freestyle, sophomore Alyssa Swanson (Aurora, Colo./Regis Jesuit) won the race by almost three seconds thanks to her time of 1:53.26.  In the 100 free, Swanson took second to Kenyon's Anna Connolly with a time of 52.47.

In the diving competitions the Big Red swept both the one and three-meter events.  In the one-meter, first-year Rachel Keselring (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield) placed first with a score of 191.25.  Classmate Dallas Manson (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) took second with a score of 189.05.  In the three-meter, senior co-captain Lizzie Litwak (Loudonville, N.Y./Albany Academy for Girls) paced the home team with a score of 191.75.

Other top-finishers for Denison included Hilary Callen's (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) second-place showing in the 1000 free and 500 freestyle.  Callen was edged by just .53 seconds in the 500 freestyle and less than two seconds in the 1000 free.  Both events were won by Kenyon's Kaitlyn Meirs.

Denison improves to 3-2 in dual meets this season.  They will return to the pool on Dec. 2 when the swimmers travel to Oxford, Ohio for the three-day Miami Invitational.  The divers will also compete on Dec. 2 at the Blue Devil Invitational from Fredonia, N.Y.
