The Denison Big Red women's swimming & diving squad took a pair of Division I foes to the limit on Friday night but came up just shy in the end. DU suffered a 167-124 loss to the host, Ohio State Buckeyes. They also dropped a heartbreaker to Cleveland State, 152-148 from McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.
Denison posted three victories and seven, top-three finishes on Friday night. Senior Ksenia Golovkina (Newton, Mass./Newton South) posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke with her winning time of 1:05.31. She also posted a victory along with first-year Morgan Nuess (Kettering, Ohio/Dayton Christian), Alyssa Swanson (Aurora, Colo./Regis Jesuit) and Lianne McCluskey (Hope, Maine/Camden Hills Regional) in the 200 free relay. The foursome posted a winning time of 1:36.54 to close out the tri-meet.
Denison's third victory went to sophomore Lindsay Zeberlein (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) who took the 100 backstroke in 58.84 seconds. Zeberlein also posted a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:07.07) and was a part of the third-place 200 medley relay team with Golovkina, Nuess and Swanson.
First-year Natalie Lugg (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) turned in a second-place finish in the 200 IM and Nuess chipped in a runner-up finish in the 50 freestyle, touching in 24.68.
In the one and three meter dives, senior Lizzie Litwak (Loudonville, N.Y./Albany Academy for Girls) led DU with a sixth place finish in both events.
Denison will return to the pool on Saturday (Nov. 6) when they take on rival Kenyon College at 10 a.m from Gregory Pool in Granville.
