Balanced attack sends Big Red past Oberlin, 5-1

Box Score

Senior Kimmi Oshita (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) scored twice as the Denison women's soccer team erupted for a season-high tying five goals against Oberlin College at Barclay-Thomsen Field in Granville, Ohio.  The Big Red defeated the Yeowomen, 5-1, in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening.

The Big Red wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Oshita found the back of the net on DU's first shot of the game.  The senior took a through ball from Jenn Sloan (Bethesda, Md./Sidwell Friends School) and ripped a shot into the lower right 90 at the 1:54 mark.  The score was Oshita's seventh of the year, while the assist was Sloan's fourth of the season.

In the 31st minute, senior Jen Clemmer (Hixson, Tenn./Baylor School) dribbled the ball down the right side of the defense and fired a shot into the near side corner to give Denison a 2-0 lead at the half.  The unassisted tally was Clemmer's seventh of the season.  The Big Red held a 13-7 advantage in shots at the break, and attempted three corner kicks.

Denison added to their lead in the second half when senior Maggie Hoskin (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmor) settled an Oshita cross and fired a shot into the lower right corner.  Hoskin's fifth goal of the season came at 58:09.

Oberlin broke up the shutout in the 60th minute when Amelia Jarvinen scored off an assist from Charlotte Istel.

At 76:14, rookie Libbie Randolph (Hardyville, Va./Christchurch School) netted her second-career goal after she knocked the ball away from OC keeper Evanne Gordon and put it into a wide open goal.  Randolph also notched an assist in the 84th minute when her cross was punched in by Oshita.

DU held a commanding 22-8 advantage in shots, including a 10-3 edge in shots on net.  Big Red goalie Andrea Karl (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) made two saves, while her counterpart stopped five shots.

With the win, Denison improves to 9-5-2 overall and 3-2 in the NCAC, while the Yeowomen fall to 4-12 on the season and 1-4 in the league.  The Big Red return to action on Saturday (Oct. 23) when they travel to Delaware, Ohio to take on Ohio Wesleyan University.  Match time is slated for 5 p.m.
