Box Score Jen Clemmer (Hixson, Tenn./The Baylor School) found the back of the net in the 32nd minute and Kimmi Oshita (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) tacked on a pair of insurance goals in the second half as the Denison University women's soccer team blanked North Coast Athletic Conference rival Wittenberg University 3-0 on Tuesday night at Barclay-Thomsen Field in Granville, Ohio.
In the first half, Clemmer took the ball away from the charging Tiger keeper and ripped a shot that was blocked by a diving Wittenberg defender. The senior regained possession and chipped the ball over the downed player and into the back of the net at 31:18. The unassisted tally was Clemmer's sixth of the year and gave DU a 1-0 lead at the intermission.
Just two minutes and 17 seconds into the second half, the Big Red doubled their lead when senior Maggie Hoskin (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmor) sent a cross in front of the net that was headed in by Oshita. The scoring opportunity materialized when Hoskin tracked down a cross-field pass from Jocelyn Festle (Park Ridge, Ill./Loyola Academy) deep in Denison's offensive third.
In the 83rd minute, rookie Lauren Jay (Westerville, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) sent a through ball to a streaking Hoskin, who one-touched a cross to the left side of the goal. Oshita headed the cross past keeper Cassie Lythjohan and into the lower right 90. The goal was Oshita's second of the night and sixth of the season.
First-year goalkeeper Andrea Karl (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) made one save en route to her sixth shutout of the year, while her sophomore counterpart stopped three shots.
Denison outshot Wittenberg 12-7, including a 6-1 edge in shots on goal. The Big Red attempted two corner kicks and committed 13 fouls, compared to 12 infractions by the Tigers.
DU improves to 8-4-2 overall and 2-1 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg falls to 10-3-1 and 2-1 in league play. Denison returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 16) when they host 20th-ranked Allegheny College at 12 p.m.
