The Denison women's swimming and diving team recorded 15 event victories and had seven athletes register multiple wins en route defeating Carnegie Mellon University 217-80 on Saturday afternoon.
Alyssa Swanson (Aurora, Colo./Regis Jesuit), Gail Blachly (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and Olivia Zaleski (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) led the Big Red with three victories apiece. The meet opened with a 200 medley relay victory by Maddie Armitage (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington), Blachly, Kate Rich (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) and Zaleski. The foursome touched in at 1:47.86. Blachly returned to sweep the breaststroke events, while Zaleski took first in the 50 free (24.40) and teamed up with Swanson, Hilary Callen (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) and Marit Wangstad (Wayzata, Minn./The Blake School) to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:32.11.
Swanson followed that performance up with a pair of wins in the 200 (1:52.16) and 500 free (5:00.11) events. Swanson's time in the 200 was an 'A' cut performance, while her 500 time was just eight-hundredths of a second shy from an 'A' cut time.
Emily Schroeder (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) posted wins in both the 200 butterfly and the 200 backstroke with times of 2:06.97 and 1:06.82, respectively. In addition to their relay wins, Rich and Wangstad also logged individual victories. Rich won the 100 fly (59.11), while Wangstad finished first in the 100 free (53.69).
Junior Sammie Salas (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary) pulled out the clean sweep in the diving events. Salas recorded 234.45 points in the three-meter event, and won the one-meter with 219.23 tallies.
Rounding out the Big Red winners were first-years Becky Ramsey (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and Lindsay Zeberlein (Highlands Ranch, Colo. Mountain Vista). Ramsey was victorious in the 1,000 free with a mark of 10:41.51, while Zeberlein captured the 100 back crown, touching in at 59.27.
Denison returns to the pool on Feb. 11 when they travel to Canton, Ohio for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship.
