Jake Lewing (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), Robert Barry (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's School) and Mike Barczak (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) all posted three victories as the Denison men's swimming & diving team defeated Carnegie Mellon University 164-135 in the final dual meet of the 2009-10 season on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Barry, Lewing, junior Matt Edgin (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and Barczak opened the men's event with a victory in the 200 medley relay, touching in at 1:35.37. Barry also logged victories in the 100 and 200 backstroke with times of 50.89 and 1:53.72, respectively. Barczak won both the 50 (21.84) and 100 free (47.99) events, while Lewing swept the breaststroke events.
Also notching a victory for the Big Red swimmers was sophomore Dan Thurston (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron). Thurston captured the 200 free crown with a time of 1:43.54.
Denison also swept the diving portion of the meet. Junior Cody Smith (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) tallied 277.95 points in the one-meter dive, while sophomore Phil Meyer (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest) was victorious in the three-meter event (278.18).
The Big Red returns to action on Feb. 11 when they travel to Canton, Ohio for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship.
