Bishops sweep season series with Big Red

Ohio Wesleyan got 28 points from Tim Brady while outscoring the Big Red 40-26 in the paint, en route to an 80-62 win over the Denison Big Red on Wednesday night from Livingston Gymnasium.

After falling behind by 11 points at halftime, Denison cut the Bishop lead to eight after a 3-point basket by Chris Luther (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) with 16:08 to play in the second half.  Denison would remain in striking distance, trailing by 12 with just over five minutes to play.  Down the stretch the Battling Bishops got the the free throw line and knocked down shots while the Big Red went cold from the field, connecting on just 1 of 10 field goals over the final five minutes of action.

Luther and freshman Dimonde Hale (Columbus, Ohio/Northland) led Denison with 17 points apiece.  Hale was 8 for 17 from the field and also added six rebounds in 29 minutes.  Junior Larry Farmer (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Twp.) posted his fifth double-double of the season with an 11 point, 13 rebound, five assist and five blocked shot night.

Following's Brady's 28 point night for Ohio Wesleyan was Marshall Morris who finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds.  Pat Pellerite added 14 points and 10 boards for OWU.

DU shot 34 percent from the field and were 5 of 21 from long range while the Battling Bishops knocked down 42 percent of their field goal tries while hitting on 4 of 21 from downtown.

 

Ohio Wesleyan held a 46-38 advantage on the boards and committed nine turnovers compared to 13 for the Big Red. The Bishops improve to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while Denison drops to 3-13 overall and 3-4 in the NCAC.  Denison will return to action this Saturday (Jan. 23) when they travel to Allegheny for a 3 p.m. tip-off against the Gators.
