Wabash jumped out to an early double-digit lead and expanded it to an 18-point halftime advantage en route to handing the Denison Big Red their third-consecutive loss, 70-51, on Saturday afternoon from Chadwick Court.
The Little Giants hit five three-pointers and scored 10 tallies off six DU turnovers in the opening 20 minutes of play. Wabash also outrebounded the Big Red 26-16 in the first half, including a 10-5 edge in offensive boards. The home team took their largest lead of the half at 27-19 on a tip-in bucket by Ben Burkett at the buzzer.
On the day, Denison was led offensively by freshman Dimonde Hale's (Columbus, Ohio/Northland) 12 points and senior Chris Luther (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) nine tallies. Sophomore point guard Brett Tiberi (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) chipped in eight points, while junior Larry Farmer (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) registered seven points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks.
Wabash had three starters post double-figures, including a game-high 21 points from Aaron Brock. Wes Smith added 20 tallies and nine boards, while Chase Haltom scored 10 points. The Big Red shot 42 percent from the field, but the Little Giants controlled the boards holding a 43-28 advantage the glass.
Denison falls to 3-12 on the year and 3-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Wabash improves to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in the league. The Big Red returns to action on Wednesday when they host NCAC rival Ohio Wesleyan University. Tip-off from Livingston Gymnasium is scheduled for 8 p.m.
