The Big Red women's swimming and diving team went 12 for 12 to open their dual meet against Wittenberg before forfeiting the final four events which resulted in a 173-117 victory over the Tigers from Springfield, Ohio.
Junior diver and former NCAC champion, Sammie Salas (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary), finished in first place in the one and three meter dives to lead the Big Red. Salas won the three-meter with a total of 226.35 after totaling 244.20 to win the one-meter.
In the individual swimming events, eight different swimmers took first in those nine events. Three of those victories were NCAA provisional swims, however, no Big Red swimmer posted a season-best time on this night. Posting additional 'B' cut swims were Gail Blachly (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.35), Lindsay Zeberlein (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) in the 100 backstroke (58.97); and Hilary Callen (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) in the 200 freestyle (1:55.98).
Denison's other wins were posted by Olivia Zaleski (50 freestyle); Alyssa Swanson (1000 freestyle); Sarah DiNardo (200 butterfly); Marit Wangstad (100 freestyle); Zeberlein (2:10.14); and Ksenia Golovkina (2:32.13).
Denison improves to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference dual meets. They will return to the pool on Friday (Jan. 22) when they host Malone College at 6:30 p.m.
