Women's Swimming and Diving

DU rolls past Wittenberg

The Big Red women's swimming and diving team went 12 for 12 to open their dual meet against Wittenberg before forfeiting the final four events which resulted in a 173-117 victory over the Tigers from Springfield, Ohio.

Junior diver and former NCAC champion, Sammie Salas (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary), finished in first place in the one and three meter dives to lead the Big Red.  Salas won the three-meter with a total of 226.35 after totaling 244.20 to win the one-meter.

In the individual swimming events, eight different swimmers took first in those nine events.  Three of those victories were NCAA provisional swims, however, no Big Red swimmer posted a season-best time on this night.  Posting additional 'B' cut swims were Gail Blachly (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.35), Lindsay Zeberlein (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) in the 100 backstroke (58.97); and Hilary Callen (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) in the 200 freestyle (1:55.98).

Denison's other wins were posted by Olivia Zaleski (50 freestyle); Alyssa Swanson (1000 freestyle); Sarah DiNardo (200 butterfly); Marit Wangstad (100 freestyle); Zeberlein (2:10.14); and Ksenia Golovkina (2:32.13).

Denison improves to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference dual meets.  They will return to the pool on Friday (Jan. 22) when they host Malone College at 6:30 p.m.
