Dan Thurston (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron), Robert Barry (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's), Jake Lewing (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Jared Scheck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) posted two victories apiece as the Big Red returned to the pool after a five-week layoff to defeat Wittenberg, 172-118.
The Big Red prevailed in 11 of the first 12 events as Barry took both backstroke events and Thurston out-touched the field in the 100 and 200 freestyles. In the 100 back, Barry recorded a time of 52.03 and then came back with a time of 1:55.40 in the 200 backstroke. Thurston logged times of 1:45.63 in the 200 free and notched a time of 48.81 in the 100 freestyle, while Lewing secured wins in both breaststroke events.
Scheck posted a clean sweep in both diving events, tallying a career high, 280.15 points in the one-meter dive before returning with 257.85 points in the three-meter.
Also logging first place finishes in individual events were two other Big Red swimmers. Jay Haney (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:59.71 while Chris Bagley (West Bloomfield, Mich./Brother Rice) took first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.38.
Denison will return to the pool next Friday (Jan. 22) when they host Malone at 6:30 p.m.
