Wittenberg shot 55 percent from the field in the first half and raced out to a 49-28 halftime lead en route to a 95-55 win over the Denison Big Red on Wednesday night from Livingston Gymnasium.
The Tigers knocked down seven 3-pointers in the opening half and turned 10 Denison turnovers into 15 of their 49 first half points. DU trailed by only two with 10:44 left to play in the first half but Wittenberg proceeded to go on a 17-2 run over the next five minutes. It was a balanced attack that helped the Tigers wear down the Big Red. Ten different players got in the scoring column in the first half and Wittenberg's bench outscored Denison's bench 22-3.
For the game, Denison was led in scoring by freshman Dimonde Hale (Columbus, Ohio/Northland) who scored 10 points while going 5 of 6 from the field. Hale also pulled down six rebounds in 22 minutes of action. Chris Luther (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) chipped in nine points and Larry Farmer (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Twp.) scored eight points, had seven rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots in 21 minutes.
The Tigers had four players reach double figures and were led by Josh McKee and Seth Hill who each tallied 12 points. Mark Snyder led all players with 10 rebounds and current NCAC Athlete of the Week, Chris Sullivan added six points and four assists. The Tigers shot 51 percent from the field for the game and were 12 of 28 (.429) from beyond the arc. They also held a big advantage on the boards, outrebounding DU 41-28 with 19 of those 41 caroms coming on the offensive glass.
Wittenberg improves to 12-2 overall and 4-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while Denison falls to 3-11 overall and 3-2 in the NCAC. Denison's next game will be Saturday (Jan. 16) when they travel to Crawfordsville, Ind. for a 3 p.m. tip-off against Wabash College.
