Denison suffers road loss to Cardinals

Otterbein's Rachel Degan scored two goals to lead her Cardinals past the 14th-ranked Denison Big Red in women's soccer action from Westerville, Ohio on Tuesday afternoon.

Degan got Otterbein out in front in the 13th minute when her teammate, Carly Dent, sent a corner kick into the box which Degan headed past DU goalkeeper Courtney Cobb (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula) for the match's first goal.

After the OC goal, Denison went on the offensive, sending four shots at the home team's goal.  In the 24th minute Maggie Hoskin (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) hit the cross bar while Kim Oshita (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) and Sara Livingston (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) both had shots saved by Cardinal keeper Tara Carter.

In the second half DU did outshoot Otterbein 3-2 but the Cardinals insurance goal by Degan with just six minutes left in regulation found it's way into the goal from 25 yards out.

Carter ended the match with six saves for Otterbein while Denison's Cobb posted three saves.  DU outshot Otterbein 10-8 while the Cardinals took six corner kicks to Denison's four.

DU falls to 4-2 overall with the loss while Otterbein moves to 5-1.  The Big Red will take on Centre on Saturday (Sept. 19) at 2 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
