The Denison Big Red men's swimmers suffered a 173-80 loss at the hands of Division I power, Ohio State on Friday evening at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Denison was led by sophomore Dan Thurston (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) who placed first in the 400 IM and junior Chris Bagley (West Bloomfield, Mich./Brother Rice) who was a part of the team's winning 400 free relay team as well as a second-place showing in the 100 fly.
Thurston's win in the 400 IM with a time of 4:12.05 is the second-fastest time in Division III through the first three weeks of competition. Bagley netted a time of 53.33 in the 100 fly and returned with teammates Mike Barczak (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice), Bernard Chen (Singapore/Angl-Chinese School) and Robert Barry (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:13.14.
Barczak also posted his season-best time in the 100 backstroke, touching in 51.87 which was good for fourth place. Also posting a runner-up finish was junior Jake Lewing (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury). He covered the 200 breaststroke in 2:13.50.
Denison will return to action on Dec. 3 at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.
