Junior Kimmi Oshita (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) tallied three of Denison's four second-half goals in a 5-1 victory over Oberlin College in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night from Oberlin, Ohio. The win is the Big Red's fifth in a row as they improve to 9-2-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
The DU offense was firing on all cylinders right out of the gate. In the opening 16 plus minutes, Denison had already unloaded 11 shots towards Oberlin goalie Sarah Grabinski. The Big Red finally capitalized on a scoring opportunity in the 29th minute when a cross by senior captain Anna Rusch (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends School) deflected off Grabinski's hands and into the goal.
Oberlin quickly evening the score when Katy Holihan looped a high arching shot over keeper Courtney Cobb's (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) head and into the back of the net in the 33rd minute. The scored remained tied heading into the break.
Denison didn't waste anytime regaining the lead in the second frame. At the 51:51 mark, junior Jen Clemmer (Hixson, Tenn./The Baylor School) dribbled through the Yeowomen defense and blistered the go-ahead goal past Grabinski to give DU a 2-1 edge.
Just four days removed from her first-career hat trick against Hiram, Oshita recaptured the magic with another three-tally performance against the OC. The junior notched her first score of the game on a header off a crossing pass from Clemmer in the 67th minute. Ten minute later, the Cincinnati native scored on another cross this time from Rusch. Oshita completed her second hat trick in as many games on a tally with eight minutes left in regulation.
DU out shot Oberlin 25-4, including an 11-2 edge in shots on net. Denison also attempted three corner kicks compared to the Oberlin's one.
The Big Red return to action on Saturday when they host NCAC rival Allegheny College at Barclay-Thomsen Field. Match time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
