The 12th-ranked Denison Big Red captured their second consecutive, and eighth overall, North Coast Athletic Conference Championship following a 3-1 victory over The College of Wooster on Saturday in Wooster, Ohio. The Big Red improved their record to 15-2-2 overall, and closed their regular season with a 7-0-1 record in conference play.
Denison will enter next week's conference tournament as the top seed, but their opponent is yet to be determined. The match will be held in Granville and will be played on Tuesday (Nov. 3) at 7 p.m.
In today's match versus the Scots, Denison scored the first three goals of the match to take a commanding lead. Denison's first goal was scored on a breakaway by junior Maggie Hoskin (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) in the 25th minute of play. The goal was Hoskin's sixth of the season.
The score would remain 1-0 in favor of DU until the 53rd minute, when Lauren Farell (Sylvania, Ohio/Toledo Central Catholic) would provide the eventual game-winner with an unassisted goal. The final score for DU would come nine minutes later off the foot of Anna Rusch (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends School).
Wooster's Liz Mott headed a ball past Denison goalkeeper Courtney Cobb (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) in the 69th minute, snapping the Big Red's six-match scoreless streak. Despite allowing the goal, Denison's Cobb has allowed just seven goals this season and boasts the nation's seventh lowest goals-against average at 0.36.
Denison will host Earlham College in Tuesday's NCAC Semifinal at Barclay-Thomsen Field in Granville. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
