Wittenberg plays Denison to scoreless tie

Courtney Cobb (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) registered her 13th shutout and the Denison team tied the school's single-season shutout record after the 12th-ranked Denison Big Red played Wittenberg to a 0-0 tie over 110 minutes of soccer from Springfield, Ohio.

The Big Red defense ran their scoreless streak to an impressive 617 minutes that dates back to Oct. 7 at Oberlin.  Over the last 12 matches (or 1,120 minutes) Denison has allowed just one goal to sneak by.

The two teams both registered 10 shots with the Big Red getting six of their 10 attempts on-goal.  Wittenberg had three shots on-goal, all resulting in saves by Cobb.  DU also blanked the Tigers in the corner kick battle, 3-0.

The tie moves Denison's record to 14-2-2 and 6-0-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.  This was Denison's sixth straight shutout, which is also one shy of the school record achieved previously in 2000 and 2002.  As for Cobb, her shutout moves her right behind single-season shutout record holder Elizabeth Clapacs in the Denison record books.  Clapacs posted 14 shutouts in 1998, Cobb has 13 heading into Saturday's regular season finale with The College of Wooster.

For Wittenberg, their record moves to 9-3-5 and 4-2-2 in NCAC play.  This was their sixth overtime match of the season and their fifth double-overtime tie.
