Men’s Golf Conclude Sam Snead Invitational With Top-15 Finish

Williamsburg, Va. - In their fourth showing of the spring, the Denison men's golf team road-tripped to Williamsburg, Virginia for the Sam Snead Invitational hosted by Piedmont University, where they finished 15th in a loaded field. Jack Pelletier finished 14th and the highest for the Big Red, shooting an even 71 on round three to finish +6 in the tournament. Denison totaled a score of +51 over the two-day stretch, finishing one stroke behind Shenandoah and two strokes ahead of Southern Virginia.

Round One: Joseph Brasky would lead the Big Red through the first day of the tournament, shooting a 74 (+3) with a birdie on the sixth hole for a solid first round. Jack Pelletier and Will McCarthy followed up with total scores of 76 (+5), with McCarthy notching an eagle on a par four on the fifth hole along with a birdie on the seventh. Drew Brasky tallied four birdies in his 77 (+6) day, and Owen Blakley totaled an 80 (+9) to cap off a first round total of +19 for the Big Red.

Round Two: Pelletier would improve his score in the second round by four strokes, shooting a 34 (-1) on the back nine to finish with a total score of 72 (+1) and a two-day total of 148 (+5). Joseph Brasky stayed consistent with a 74 (+3) once again while also tallying three birdies. McCarthy would also shoot a 74, bringing his two-round total to 150 (+8). Blakely would tally a 78 (+7), and Drew Brasky finished with a total score of 80 (+9), making the Big Red +33 and firmly in the top-15 heading into the final round.

Round Three: The Big Red would continue to keep steady, as Pelletier continued to build on his impressive weekend, shooting a 71 (E) on the final day to finish 14th out of all competitors, and finished +6 total. McCarthy was the second lowest score for the Big Red, finishing day three with a score of 75 (+4) and a top-50 finish. Drew Brasky (77, +6), and Blakely (79, +8) rounded out Denison, and finished +18 on the day and +51 over the course of the tournament.
