Granville, Ohio - In celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the ninth-ranked Big Red women's basketball team triumphed over the RV Tigers of DePauw 57-40. With the win, Denison snags their eighth conference victory and moves to 19-1 (8-1) on the year. DePauw, meanwhile, fell to 11-9 (4-5).
First Quarter: Denison came out of the gates hot, going on a 7-0 run to open the first quarter. The Big Red could not miss from deep, hitting on all four three-point attempts in the first quarter. Junior guard Abby Cooch contributed two threes to that total and assisted on three more buckets to round out her superb first quarter. At the end of the first, reveling in a downpour of cheers from the Livingston Gymnasium crowd, Denison led 20-6.
Second Quarter: The Big Red eclipsed 1,500 points on the season with a Cooch three-pointer to open the second quarter. The second quarter saw a slower offensive pace, but the defense kept its foot on the gas, holding the Tigers to under ten points for the second consecutive quarter. Going into the half, the Big Red held a 30-14 lead.
Third Quarter: After the Tigers broke open the second half with a quick bucket, both teams went blow-for-blow, forcing unwanted shots and playing with a heightened defensive focus. After an Adelyn Moore jumper with 5:32 left in the third quarter, both teams would go scoreless until the three-minute mark. DePauw ended the quarter with a layup with 1:32 left in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter: At the end of the night, the Tigers would outscore the Big Red for the first time in the game, but it was not enough to overcome the Denison lead. Defensive stops and forced turnovers continued to pile up for both squads. Molly Dorighi would drill two free throws, and Anelly Mad-toingué would punctuate the night with a great post move to close the game out.
