Granville, Ohio — After a quiet first half, No. 1 Denison men's soccer found its stride in the second, earning a 2-0 win over Centre on Sunday afternoon at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium
The match opened scrappy, with Centre committing three fouls in the first 20 minutes of play. Denison maintained steady offensive pressure as seniors Zarius Eusebe and Phil Koutsaftis tested the Colonels' defense, but the Big Red were unable to break through despite outshooting Centre 6-0 in the first half.
The breakthrough came in the 57th minute when first-year Nico Malouin netted his first career goal, assisted by Kaden Kist. The Big Red doubled their advantage in the 80th minute, when Kameron Kist converted a penalty kick for his third goal of the season.
The physicality ramped up late, with four yellow cards shown in the final 45 minutes. Overall, Centre was whistled for 13 fouls compared to just five for Denison.
Denison finished with a 15-4 edge in shots, including six on goal, while holding Centre to just one shot on frame.
With the win, the Big Red improve to 6-0-1 on the year, continuing their unbeaten start to the season.
