Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Big Red and Cardinals Finish in a Thrilling 3-3 Draw

Westerville, Ohio- The No. 1 Denison men's soccer team gave up its first three goals for the season in its 3-3 draw against Otterbein University. The Big Red moves to 5-0-1 for the season, and the Cardinals hold a 2-1-3 record.

In the first half, Denison set the pace of the match, outshooting Otterbein 7 to 1 and scoring two of its three goals. The Big Red took a quick 1-0 lead in the eighth minute of play, when Kaden Kist in the final third of Otterbein's half stepped up for a throw-in and found the head of senior defender Zarius Eusebe. However, seven minutes later, Otterbein tied the game at one after a scramble following a free kick attempt. With just under five minutes left in the first half, a foul inside the box led to a penalty kick goal by Kameron Kist to put Denison back up by one before halftime.

In the second half, Otterbein took control of the game, holding a 9 to 4 shooting edge over the Big Red, and earning two corners while giving up none on the other end. Just one minute into the second half, the Cardinals knotted the match at two. Keeping their composure, Denison managed to regain the lead in the 57th minute after Eli Taylor slipped the ball into the low left corner of Otterbein's net. Not backing down and with the home field advantage, the Cardinals tied the game up again at three goals apiece in the 83rd minute, ultimately recording their third draw of the season and Denison's first tie.

Denison's Alex Provost and Otterbein's Jason Villalobos finished the evening with three saves each. The two teams finished with virtually the same stat line, with the only outliers being the corner differential and the Big Red being issued one offside call and two yellow cards.
