Northborough, Mass. -The IWLCA recently announced three student-athletes and four teams as the winners of the 2025 IWLCA Community Awareness Awards. Denison University's women's lacrosse team, along with Winthrop University, Belmont Abbey College, and Warner University, were honored as 2025 team recipients.
Â
The goal of the Team Community Awareness Award is to highlight one team from each division that has made a significant contribution to their community during the academic year. Academic performance is not part of the award criteria. To qualify, at least 50% of the team's roster must have engaged in community service activities.
Â
The Denison University team earned the Division III Community Awareness Award through a variety of impactful service activities throughout the 2024–25 year. During spring break, players participated in the Red Cross "Sound the Alarm" event, installing 308 smoke detectors in a local mobile home park and educating residents on fire safety — an effort recognized in the Regional Red Cross Newsletter. Shortly afterward, the team supported the Family Service Association of Redlands by decorating 130 Easter boxes for homeless and low-income community members and making over 800 cake pops for an Easter community meal.
Â
Throughout the year, the team continued its commitment to environmental stewardship by adopting a two-mile stretch of the TJ Evans bike trail, where small groups of players cleaned monthly to keep the trail safe and inviting. Last November, 15 players volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in Columbus, preparing and serving breakfast for children and families, supported by funds the team raised to cover meal costs.
Â
The team also engaged with the local community by participating in two "Trunk or Treat" events, providing candy, costumes, and festive spirit to neighborhood children.
Â
The three individual honorees were Megan Carroll (Division I | Hofstra University), Taylor Priestley (Division II | Northern Michigan University), and Taylor Chepren (Division III | Marymount University). Each of these students made significant contributions to their respective communities throughout the academic year, dedicating their time and energy to support and develop athlete-community relations.Â
