Granville, Ohio—This past weekend, the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference announced its All-Conference selections, and five Denison women's fencing athletes were honored.
Two fencers were named to Second-Team All-Conference—junior
Velma Hall placed third at Conference and had an 82-28 record on the season. Sophomore
Corvus Endo also received Second-Team honors after placing tenth at conference championships and had a 97-30 record. The Big Red had three All-Conference Honorable Mentions—sophomore
Lal Ertün placed 11th at the Conference Championships and had a 92-33 season record. Juniors
Natalie Isberg and
Delaney Brown also received honorable mention with ninth-place finishes, 85-51 season records, 11th-place finishes, and 28-26 season records, respectively.
"Five Central Collegiate All-Conference selections is a record for our program," Head Coach
Peter Grandbois commented. With powerhouse schools like Ohio State and Northwestern in the conference, it is difficult to break into the top honors, but these fencers managed it with a lot of hard work and dedication."
Central Collegiate Fencing All-Conference honorees are decided by a vote cast by the conference's head coaches. The award is based on objective criteria like season record and SPI, as well as conference placement, but it is also based on subjective criteria based on what the coaches have observed all season.
