Granville, Ohio- The United States Fencing Coaches Association announced All-American honorees for the 2024-25 season, and No. 1 ranked Denison University garnered three recipients. Sophomore
Corvus Endo and junior
Velma Hall were named to the All-American Division III Second Team, while sophomore
Lal Ertün was named an All-American Honorable Mention for Division III.
All-American status for Division III is given to the top fencers in the country based on their season performance (40%) and their result at NCAA Regionals and/or Nationals. Because NCAA nationals is a combined Division I, II, and III event in fencing, it is difficult for Division III athletes to qualify (only three Division III woman athletes qualified for Nationals this year). Therefore, in addition to season performance, All-American status is also based on performance at regionals (60%). This year marks the second time Hall and Ertün have been honored with All-American status.
Endo finished the 2024-25 season with an 87-30 record for a 76% win rate, and placed 8th at the Midwest Regionals. Ertün went 92-33 (74% win rate) for the 2024-25 season and finished 10th at regionals, while Hall had a 2024-25 season record of 82-28 (75% win rate) and placed 9th at regionals.
"Corvus, Velma, and Lal have been superstars all season, performing consistently strong in every meet, so it's great to see them being honored with All-American status," Coach
Peter Grandbois commented. "And to have three fencers so honored is the most Denison fencing has had in its short history. We are thrilled!"
