No. 3 Baseball Splits Doubleheader versus Wabash

Granville, Ohio: The No.3 Denison baseball team(ranked No. 1 by Perfect Game) continued their NCAC path with a Tuesday doubleheader versus the Little Giants of Wabash College. Wabash presents with a 12-6 overall record but, like the Big Red, picked up their first two conference victories this past weekend. Denison leads the all-time series 61-25 over the conference foe. During the season, the Big Red presents with a 16-3 overall record and currently holds an eight-game win streak, which is the third-longest active win streak across Division III. 

Denison took game one in a 6-1 decision. Wabash responded in game two, coming out victorious in a slow-paced 4-2 victory. The Big Red move to 17-4 on the year, as the Little Giants leave Granville with a 13-7 record.

Up Next: Denison will travel to Penn State-Harrisburg on Sunday for an away doubleheader. Penn State-Harrisburg is currently ranked #12 by d3baseball.com

Game 1 (Denison 6, Wabash 1)
The Big Red kept rolling in game one, following suit to junior righty Will Rettig. Rettig went 7.0 innings, allowing just one run and recording 11 strikeouts. The offense kept a methodical pace, having just one extra base hit from the bat of Jack Lutte. Lutte and Eric Colaco led the way with two hits, but Erik Sundgren led the day with three RBIs. 

Out of the bullpen, Ryan Starr and Manny Nager made appearances. The bullpen collected 14 total strikeouts and allowed just three walks. The defense was perfect, recording zero errors in the victory.

Game 2 (Denison 2, Wabash 4)
A defensive battle ended in favor of the Little Giants in game two. The Big Red used four arms out of the bullpen. Michael Gray got the start for Denison, followed by Ryan Starr, Sam Larson, and Jack Rollo. The group collected 10 strikeouts in the nine-inning battle. The offense was paced by Eric Colaco and Andrew Fazio, who both knocked two hits in the loss.
