Hiram, Ohio —The No. 19 Denison University men's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-3 victory over Hiram College, improving their record to 6-4, while Hiram drops to 3-7 on the season.
The Big Red dominated from the start, scoring eight unanswered goals in the first quarter. AJ Boxler, Tommy Quinson, and Macky Peck all found the net early, with Jack Moellering and Luke Marascio adding goals to give Denison an 8-0 lead after the first. Denison outshot Hiram 22-1Â in the opening frame and controlled the tempo from the start.
Denison continued their offensive assault in the second quarter, extending their lead to 13-1 at halftime. Whit Miller scored twice, and Peter Tyack and Colin Swanson also contributed to the Big Red's offensive surge. Denison's faceoff unit was dominant, winning 30 of 30 faceoffs, with Luke Marascio securing 23 of the 23 draws and Grant Larson with the other seven.Â
In the third quarter, Denison kept the pressure on, with goals from Miller, Charlie Maloney, and Lawton Corrigan, pushing the lead to 16-1. Hiram managed to score a goal in the fourth, but Denison responded with additional goals from Anthony Savoy and Mason Ball to finish with a 23-3 victory. Denison also controlled the ground ball battle, 56-12, and held Hiram to just six shots on goal.
Whit Miller finished with three goal and two assists, while Graham Harris added four assists. Denison's offense was well-balanced, with 22 different players recording points, and their defense was equally strong, holding Hiram to just three goals on the day.
