Granville, Ohio- Hosting its first home outdoor meet of the 2025 spring season, the Denison women's track and field team opened the outdoor season with 19 top-ten performances across 13 events at the 2025 Denison Lid Lifter.
Field Events
Throws were the first set of events for the Lid Lifter meet. Junior
Sydney Flores finished first in shot put after throwing a distance of 12.88m, moving her up the Denison Outdoor top-ten list from fourth (12.32) to a definitive third. Flores would later finish in fourth place in discus with a distance of 38.49m. Fellow throwers
Mariel Drost took fifth in hammer after throwing a distance of 37.91, securing a spot in Denison's top-ten performers' list. Rounding out the throws were first-year
Emery Kurth, through a distance of 21.35m in javelin.
Over in jumps, sophomore
Rose Bohlsen was tied for seventh in high jump, clearing the height of 1.37m. In pole vault, senior
Catelyn Gagnier secured first place after vaulting a height of 3.33m; first-year teammate
Evie Sparks would take eighth after clearing a height of 2.73. The final jumps event was long jump, where
Anaya Jolivette,
Emery Kurth, and
Julia Schena finished fifth (5.01m), sixth 5.00m, and ninth (4.82m), respectively.
Running Events
Denison continued to find success around the track throughout the meet. In the 1500m run,
Lexi Verdell ran a 4:58.44 for second place, followed by Sparks, finishing in eighth with a time of 5:19.34. In the 100m hurdles,
Julia Schena and
Sydney Brown finished fifth (16.69) and sixth(17.23), respectively; while
Emily Brennan and
Ava Sinex finished in first place and fourth in the 400m hurdles. Brennan ran a 1:04.94, while Sinex crossed the finish line at 1:11.53.
Jolivette would tack on another first-place finish for the Big Red in the 100m dash, with a time of 12.35, and in the 200m dash,
Mira Renaldi came in tenth place with a time of 27.17. Rounding out the top-ten finishes for Denison were
Piper Lee, Jolivette,
Abby McChesney, and Sparks, who ran the 4x400 in 4:19.37, just 0.30 seconds faster than the third-place team.
