Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

#18 Denison Drops Final Spring Break Game to #9 Amherst

Sparks, Md.- The Denison men's lacrosse team suffered its third loss in a row after falling to No. 9 Amherst College 13-7 at the US Lacrosse Headquarters. The Big Red moved to 3-4 for the season, while the Mammoths remained an undefeated 5-0.

Amherst put in a pair of goals a minute apart in the first quarter to give the Mammoths a 2-0 lead over Denison. The Big Red would respond with two goals of their own; however, with each goal earned by Denison, Amherst would have two more answers. Down 4-2 heading into the second quarter, the Big Red cut the lead to just one goal; however, they continued to trade goals with the Mammoths, resulting in a two-goal deficit heading into halftime.

Unfortunately for Denison, Amherst came out of halftime with a scoring frenzy, outsourcing the Big Red 5-1, stretching its lead over Denison to six. Though the Big Red managed to hold the Mammoths to two goals in the fourth quarter, Denison only found the back of Amherst's net twice, resulting in a final score of 13-7.

Tommy Quinson paced the Big Red's offense, finishing the afternoon with a hat trick, followed by Macky Peck with two goals and one assist. Collin Murphy and Jack Hines tallied the final two goals for Denison to bring the team's total to seven. On the defensive end, Owen Holder and Charlie Pellegrino forced two turnovers each, while Andrew Albert recorded 13 saves for the day in goal for the Big Red.

Amherst held a 46-29 edge in shots taken, and although they didn't successfully clear four out of their 28 clear attempts, they still completed eight more attempts than Denison. On 50-50 balls, the Mammoths had a 48 to 27 advantage in ground balls. The Amherst's offensive success started in the faceoff circle, winning 16 of the 24 faceoffs throughout the afternoon. One bright spot for the Big Red was that they converted two of its three extra-man opportunities while giving up no goals in extra-man opportunities on the defensive end.
