GRANVILLE, Ohio (Feb. 8) - In another tight NCAC matchup, the Denison Big Red pulled out a 64-56 win over Wittenberg University on Senior Day inside Livingston Gymnasium. The rivalry between Wittenberg and Denison has consistently delivered intense, closely contested games, and this one was no exception.
The Big Red were led by Darren Rubin, who scored a game-high 21 points, going 8-of-15 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Trevor Reed added 15 points and grabbed three rebounds, while Cameron Smith contributed seven points and a team-high five rebounds. Aidan King also made a notable impact off the bench with eight points, including two critical three-pointers.
Denison and Wittenberg exchanged the lead 12 times, and the score was tied on 12 occasions, reflecting the evenly matched battle. After both teams entered halftime tied at 32, the Big Red outscored the Tigers 32-24 in the second half, fueled by clutch free-throw shooting, where they finished 16-of-19 (84.2%) for the game.
The win was even sweeter as the Big Red celebrated Senior Day, honoring the Class of 2025: Ricky Radtke, Gates Flynn, Darren Rubin, Dre Rodgers, Cameron Smith, Scotty Dean, Jay Jackson, and Tyler Miller. Adding to the festivities, Denison hosted Alumni Day, which brought extra energy and a packed crowd to Livingston Gymnasium.
Now 19-2 overall and 11-1 in NCAC play, Denison moves closer to postseason action with only four regular-season games remaining. The Big Red will hit the road to face DePauw University on February 12 at 6:00 p.m.
