CANTON, N.Y. (Feb. 8) — The No. 1-seeded Denison University women's squash team delivered a dominant performance on the first day of the Liberty League Championship, securing two decisive victories over Vassar College and William Smith College. The Big Red showcased their depth, setting the stage for tomorrow's championship match against St. Lawrence University at 10:30 a.m.
In the opening match of the day against Vassar College, Denison was unstoppable, sweeping all nine matches . Antoinette Ramsey set the tone at the top of the ladder with a commanding 3-0 win over Adriana Ordaya (11-4, 11-2, 11-8). Helena Fournaris displayed remarkable grit in a thrilling five-game battle, edging out Charlotte Tobin (11-4, 11-7, 12-14, 6-11, 12-10) to secure a crucial point. The middle of the lineup proved equally dominant, with Amelia Keng (11-1, 11-2, 11-2), Esme Adelman (11-3, 11-4, 11-2), and Tess Lanza (11-0, 11-2, 11-1) each delivering flawless performances. Lane Harding, Madeleine Ruggie, Nora Afzali, and Golda Mehl rounded out the sweep with straight-set victories, highlighting Denison's impressive depth.
The Big Red carried that momentum into their second match of the day against William Smith College. While Denison faced a tougher challenge, they remained in control, earning a 7-2 victory. Amelia Keng (11-6, 11-2, 11-6), Esme Adelman (11-2, 11-5, 11-2), and Tess Lanza (11-2, 11-6, 11-6) continued their winning streaks with straight-set victories. Kate Manderlink added another strong performance with a 3-0 win over Tamia Rollaing (11-2, 11-3, 11-6), while Lane Harding (11-2, 11-2, 11-3), Madeleine Ruggie (11-2, 11-3, 11-0), and Nora Afzali (11-5, 11-5, 11-2) each secured convincing wins.
With two strong victories under their belt, the Big Red are poised to carry their momentum into tomorrow's championship match against St. Lawrence University.
