GREENCASTLE, Ind. (Feb. 5) – Denison women's basketball (12-8, 5-4 NCAC) battled against a tough DePauw squad (14-5, 8-1 NCAC) on Wednesday night but came up short in a 62-52 loss at Neal Fieldhouse.
The Big Red found themselves trailing early but continued to fight, keeping pace with the Tigers throughout the second and third quarters. Senior Abigail Westmeyer led Denison with an impressive performance, scoring a team-high 18 points on an efficient 7-for-11 shooting, while also grabbing six rebounds. She was instrumental in keeping the Big Red in contention, particularly in the second half when Denison made several pushes to close the gap.
Adelyn Moore and Abby Cooch added eight and seven points, respectively, with Moore also pulling in a team-best eight rebounds. The Big Red showed resilience on the boards, collecting 38 total rebounds, but struggled from three-point range, finishing just 4-of-23 from beyond the arc.
DePauw was led by Ava Hassel's 16 points and Olivia Hart's double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Tigers were able to capitalize on their defensive pressure, forcing key turnovers late in the game to secure the victory.
Denison will remain on the road for its next contest, traveling to Wooster, Ohio, to take on the Fighting Scots this Saturday at noon.
