PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Feb. 28) — The Denison University women's squash team opened the 2025 CSA Divisional Team Championships with a statement win, defeating St. Lawrence University 7-2. After falling to St. Lawrence in a tight 5-4 match in the Liberty League Championship final, the Big Red responded with a dominant performance to advance to the next round.
At the top of the lineup, Charlotte Jones set the tone with a commanding 3-0 win over Angel Otshabeng (11-7, 13-11, 11-8). Antoinette Ramsey followed with an equally dominant performance at No. 3, taking down Margaret Pruett 3-0 (11-8, 11-4, 11-4) in 16 minutes. Esme Adelman added another key win at No. 4, battling back after dropping the first game to defeat Mariam Dodd 3-1 (2-11, 11-9, 11-1, 11-3).
Denison was led by Tess Lanza, who delivered the clinching victory at No. 6 with a decisive 3-0 sweep over Emma Kahle (11-3, 11-2, 11-5). Her composed and aggressive play sealed the Big Red's fifth and final point, securing the victory with confidence.
While Denison had already secured the victory, Helena Fournaris fought until the very end in the longest match of the day. She took a 2-1 lead over Laura Franz before ultimately falling in five games (9-11, 20-18, 6-11, 11-6, 11-6) after a marathon 44-minute battle, showcasing her resilience and competitive drive.
Virginia Lawrence kept the momentum rolling at No. 7, delivering a quick 3-0 victory over Azaa Regmi (11-2, 11-3, 11-4) in just 13 minutes. The Big Red's depth was evident across the lineup, as they controlled the match from start to finish. The 8 and 9 slots of the team match were defaults.
With the win, Denison moves on to the semifinals, where they will take on Wesleyan University tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. as they continue their push through the CSA Divisional Team Championships.
