Granville, Ohio- The Big Red qualified one shy of the maximum twelve fencers to the 2025 NCAA Regionals to be held at Denison's own Mitchell Athletic Center on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Denison belongs to the Midwest Region, which includes No. 2 University of Notre Dame, No. 4 Ohio State University, No. 3 Northwestern University, Lawrence University, Wayne State University, Cleveland State University, and the University of Detroit, Mercy. Due to the fact that the Midwest Region includes three of the top four Division I programs, means it is perhaps the strongest region in the country.
"We're super excited not only to have qualified so many fencers for Regionals," Coach Grandbois commented, but also to have several of those fencers have a solid shot at qualifying for the NCAA National Championships. Add to that the fact that we get to host Regionals this year, and it's a really exciting time. We will have several Olympians and many world-ranked fencers competing at the event. In terms of difficulty level, the Midwest Regionals is comparable to watching a World Cup in fencing. "
The Big Red qualified the maximum of four fencers in foil and sabre, as well as three in the epee event.

Only five fencers qualify out of the Midwest region to NCAA Nationals in epee and sabre, and six fencers qualify in foil. Results at NCAA Regionals count 60% toward qualification for Nationals. The other 40% is determined by the fencer's season record. The NCAA will announce national qualifiers a few days after the regional meets. NCAA Nationals will be held March 20-23 at Penn State University.
