Granville, Ohio- Allowing just one goal throughout the matchup, the Denison men's lacrosse team beat John Carroll University handedly in its 15-1 home opener victory. The Big Red improved their overall record to 1-1, while the Blue Streaks opened their season with a road loss.
Denison kicked off the day by scoring four goals in the first quarter, then in the second quarter, the Big Red gave up John Carroll's lone goal of the afternoon and answered with two more to put Denison up 6-1 heading into the half.
Following the halftime, the Big Red extended its lead to double digits, finding the back of the Blue Streaks goal seven more times in the third quarter. Up 13-1 in the fourth, Denison would score two more times while stifling John Carroll's attempts to counterattack.Â
Leading the charge for the Big Red was senior attacker
Tommy Quinson, who finished the afternoon with six goals and one assist.
Michael Cassidy and
Jack Mollering would put in two apiece and tally one assist each. Facilitating the Big Red's offense was
Kevin Berutich, who tallied two assists for the day. Defensively, Denison caused 12 turnovers; Quinson forced three, and
Tristan Moss recorded another two. The Big Red's dominance didn't stop there, Denison went 18-for-21 in clear attempts and won 14 of the 20 faceoffs throughout the game.
In goal for the Big Red was
Andrew Albert, who finished the day with ten saves, while John Carroll's Devin Holder recorded 12 saves, and Hudson Bardeggia had four saves.
