Berea, Ohio- Lightning delays didn't slow the Denison men's lacrosse team down in their 19-9 route over the Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets. The Big Red struck early and often in the first quarter and found their groove quickly despite multiple pauses in play. Denison improved to 2-1 for the season, while Baldwin Wallace dropped to 2-2.
It took
Brady Monturio less than two minutes to find the back of the Yellow Jackets' net in the first quarter of play and under four minutes for the Big Red to jump to a quick 2-0 lead. Though Baldwin Wallace countered midway through the quarter with two goals, Denison came storming back with back-to-back-to-back goals by
Jack Hines and
Jack Moellering. By the half, the Big Red held a six-goal differential over the Yellow Jackets, following a string of goals from
Tommy Quinson,
Khari Freeman, and
Kevin Berutich.Â
In the second half, Denison had a slow start, putting in just two goals for the quarter; however, in the fourth quarter, the Big Red reset and came out energized to put the game away. Six different members scored the final six goals for Denison, showing the depth in offense.
Andrew Albert played in goal for the Big Red for the entire matchup, notching ten saves for the night and moving to 2-1 for the season. The Yellow Jackets Samuel LoPiccolo recorded nine saves for the evening. Despite the lack of caused turnovers, Denison controlled the game's pace, starting with faceoffs. The Big Red won 24 of the 32 faceoffs, collected 42 ground balls for the day, and went 16-17 in clear attempts.
Leading Denison in scoring was Hines with five goals, followed closely by Quinson with three goals and three assists. Berutich also finished the night with a hat trick and one assist, while Moellering scored twice and grabbed two ground balls.

Colin Donegan, and Monturio each scored a goal for the Big Red.
The Hornet's Bennet Trout scored five of the nine goals for Baldwin Wallace, with four other teammates scoring the remaining four. Defensively Louden Peters and Gavin Pate of Baldwin Wallace caused six of the Hornet's seven caused turnovers.
