Denison Secures Home Victory Over Wittenberg

 

GRANVILLE, Ohio (Feb. 19)– In their final regular season game inside Livingston Gymnasium, Denison University's women's basketball team delivered a steady and balanced performance to claim a 59-52 win over Wittenberg University.

The Big Red (15-9, 8-5 NCAC) maintained consistency across all four quarters, never allowing the Tigers (15-9, 7-6 NCAC) to build momentum. Both teams ended the first period tied at 16, but Denison edged ahead in the second quarter, outscoring Wittenberg 15-8 to take a 31-24 halftime lead. 

Wittenberg attempted a third-quarter push, closing the gap to 44-39 heading into the final 10 minutes, but Denison's defensive pressure and key plays down the stretch secured the win.

Key Performances

  • Abigail Westmeyer led the Big Red with 19 points on an efficient 8-for-11 shooting performance
  • Abby Cooch contributed a 12-point, 9-rebound, 8-assist near triple-double effort.
  • Adelyn Moore provided a spark off the bench. knocking down two three-pointers and finishing with 10 points.
  • Denison's defense forced 12 turnovers, converting them into 16 points.


With this win, Denison solidifies its third-place position in the NCAC standings (8-5 NCAC) heading into the postseason. No. 14-ranked Ohio Wesleyan (13-0 NCAC) and DePauw University (11-2 NCAC) remain  ahead of the Big Red in conference standings.

Denison will close out the regular season on the road against OWU, looking to carry its momentum into the NCAC tournament.
