GRANVILLE, Ohio (Feb. 19) – In a hard-fought matchup between two of the top teams in the NCAC, Denison University came up just short against the College of Wooster, falling 75-72 inside Livingston Gymnasium.
Denison started strong, taking a 38-34 lead into halftime behind an efficient offensive effort. Wooster, however, responded with a strong second half, outscoring the Big Red 41-34 to take control late. The game saw nine lead changes and four ties, keeping the crowd engaged until the final buzzer.
Darren Rubin led Denison with 21 points, hitting two three-pointers while adding two steals. Kellon Smith contributed 20 points, going eight-for-nine from the free-throw line. Trevor Reed also made an impact with 14 points and four rebounds.
Denison struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just six-for-23 from three-point range, while Wooster capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring 18 points off offensive rebounds.
With the loss, Denison moves to 21-3 overall and 13-2 in NCAC play. The Big Red will look to bounce back in their regular season finale on the road at Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday, February 22, at 3:00 p.m. as they prepare for postseason play.
