HIRAM, Ohio (Feb. 15) – Denison women's basketball picked up a crucial conference win on Saturday afternoon, defeating Hiram 57-50 at Price Gymnasium. The Big Red improved to 14-9 overall and 7-5 in NCAC play with just two regular-season games remaining.
Denison started strong, taking an 18-17 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 30-24 at halftime. The Big Red continued to control the pace in the third quarter, outscoring the Terriers 15-11 to maintain their advantage. Hiram made a late push in the final period, but Denison's defense held firm to secure the victory.
A well-rounded offensive effort made the difference, as five different players contributed at least eight points. Abigail Westmeyer (9 points, 11 rebounds), Violet Mitchell (9 points, 3 assists), and Adelyn Moore (9 points, 3 three-pointers) led the charge, while Brooke Toigo and Anelly Mad-Toingué added eight points apiece. Denison also controlled the boards, outrebounding Hiram 42-31.
The Big Red's defensive pressure played a key role, forcing 15 Hiram turnovers and converting them into 13 points. Denison also capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring nine points off offensive rebounds to maintain control throughout the game.
Denison will now turn its attention to its final home game of the regular season, hosting Wittenberg on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. before closing out the schedule on the road.
