GRANVILLE, Ohio - Junior guard Abby Cooch of the women's basketball team and Junior swimmer Jack Hill on the Men's swimming and diving team have been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week for the Big Red.
Last week, Cooch and the Big Red women's basketball team faced off against DePauw University on the road on Wednesday and Case Western Reserve University at home on Saturday. In the first half against the Tigers, Denison had to come from behind, trailing 27-19. Cooch helped the team start its comeback, finishing the third quarter with a triple and ultimately finishing with a team-high 19 points. Against Case Western, Cooch would tally another 18 points, finishing the week off with 37 total points, six rebounds, three assists, seven threes, and five steals. The Big Red improved to a 9-0 record and moved to a 1-0 conference record with the win over DePauw.
Up next for the Women's Basketball team, they will face Otterbein University on the road on Friday, December 19th at 6 P.M.
The Denison men's swimming and diving team earned a big win over No. 1 Emory at home in the Trumbull Aquatic Center with the help of Junior Jack Hill. Hill claims his second NCAC Athlete of the Week honor this year. In all six events He swam in, he finished first. In his individual events, Hill finished the 100 Free with a time of 43.62, the 200 IM with a 1:47.60 time, and the 200 Free with a time of 1:35.18. Hill also helped the 400 Medley Relay team finish first with a time of 3:12.93, the 800 Free Relay with a 6:28.19 time with the help of Goins, Hensel, and Swiggett to a pool and varsity record, and finally the 400 Free Relay with Parsons, Hilbert, and Hensel with a varsity time of 2:54.96
The next Big Red meet will be in Rochester, Michigan, against Oakland University and Miami University, from Friday, January 9, to Saturday, January 10.
