Salem, Va. - After a ten-day hiatus from action, the #18-ranked Denison Big Red women's basketball team won handily over the Albright Lions by a score of 72-48. With the win, Denison remains one of the last undefeated teams in the country, improving to 11-0. Albright, meanwhile, fell to 3-6.
First Quarter
Denison scored the first points of the night with an Abby Cooch three-pointer, the first of nine unanswered points to open the game. After that, the Big Red allowed Albright their own hot streak, as Denison found themselves trailing 11-9 at the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter
The second quarter kicked off with back-to-back triples from Violet Mitchell, giving Denison a lead that they would refuse to relent for the rest of the game. The Big Red's defense was nothing short of agonizing, holding the Lions to just seven points in the second quarter. At the half, Denison held a commanding 30-18 lead.
Third Quarter
Coming out of the half, Denison's aggressive defense set the tone early, resulting in a steal from Ada Taute, which led to a layup from Anelly Mad-toingué for an early third-quarter energizer. Denison's offense was at its most potent in the third quarter, scoring a game-high 28 points. Anchoring the Big Red's offense in the third quarter was first-year guard Molly Dorighi, who put up six of her 11 points. Denison would go 12-19 from the field, good for a 63.2% shooting percentage in the quarter, wrapping the third quarter with a 58-29 lead.
Fourth Quarter
After solid second and third quarter performances, Denison just needed to keep steady in the fourth to seal victory. The Big Red looked to their impressive bench depth to do just that. Making an impact inside the key was junior Maeve Perry, who played for most of the fourth and added two layups to her night.Â
