Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 20 Denison Outlasts Otterbein On The Road for 10th Straight Win, 62-55

Westerville, Ohio - In the first game of the holiday break, the No. 20 ranked Big Red made the short trip west to Otterbein University in a non-conference matchup, where Denison picked up their 10th win of the season to start 10-0 for the first time since 2010-11. The Cardinals fall to 7-3 after the loss tonight.

First Quarter: Both teams traded buckets early in the first, as Morgan Kress paced Denison with four points in the paint to lead the way in the first five minutes of the quarter. With Otterbein up 8-6, Ada Taute brought a spark, scoring five straight en route to an 8-4 run to close out the quarter up 14-10. Taute finished the first quarter with six points.

Second Quarter: Building that momentum into the second, the Big Red continued their momentum, stretching the lead out to as much as eight with buckets from Taute and Anelly Mad-toingué to help pace the Big Red. The Cardinals would storm back though, and would cut the lead to two going into the half, 23-21. Taude led Denison with eight points, and Adelyn Moore followed behind with five.

Third Quarter: Coming out of the half, the Big Red would push themselves out to another sizable cushion, leading 35-27 with two big threes from Moore and Isabelle McFadden. Denison held Otterbein to just 29.4% shooting in the third, but the Cardinals would put up a run of their own to tie the game 35-35 heading into the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter: The last quarter of play would prove to be the most crucial, as Denison came out with some urgency, with Cooch leading the way with nine points in an 11-0 run to start off the fourth with their first double-digit lead of the game, 46-35 with six minutes to go. Otterbein, like they had done all game, tried to creep their way back in, but clutch buckets from Violet Mitchell and Cooch down the stretch helped the Big Red squeeze-out a tough road win in Westerville, 62-55.

Team Highlights:
  • Abby Cooch finished with a team-high 23 points in the win. She also grabbed eight rebounds.
  • Ada Taute was the other Big Red to score in double-digits. She had 12 points and nine rebounds, her seventh game with seven or more rebounds.
