Oberlin, Ohio- Following an out-of-conference win over Adrian, the 4-2 Big Red men's basketball team kicked off North Coast Athletic Conference play against the Yeomen of Oberlin College. The Big Red were able to grab their first conference win while handing Oberlin their third consecutive loss in a 62-55 decision.The Big Red move to 1-0 in the conference and 5-2 overall.
First-Half: The Big Red started off NCAC play with a slow start against Oberlin. A fastbreak three from Aidan King would be the only points Denison would score in the first 10 minutes of play. The Big Red trailed by 11 before sparking a comeback that would span the rest of the game. To close a sluggish first half, Lucas Dickinson sank two free throws to send Denison into halftime trailing 22-14.
Second-Half: After four minutes of play in the second half, the Yeomen's high scorer, Zach Smith, buried a three to dig Denison into another 11 point deficit. The first-year trio of Dickinson, Samson Zack, and Ellis Appiah willed the Big Red back into play with 10 straight points. King capped off the run with another dagger from beyond the arc. Now with the lead, Denison was able to cruise to collect their first conference win of the year. In the closing seconds, Jack Steinbach iced the game with a pair of free throws.
