Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Big Red Pick Up Road Victory At Ohio Northern, Win Sixth-Straight

Ada, Ohio - Behind 14 points from Abby Cooch, the Denison women's basketball team went on the road and defeated Ohio Northern University 63-54. Three Big Red scored double figures, as Denison moves to 6-0, while Ohio Northern moves to 0-4.

First Quarter: A back-and-forth battle ensued to start out the contest, as neither team could create offense or pull ahead. Down 9-7 with six seconds to go, Anelly Mad-toingué grabbed an offensive rebound and put up a shot that found the bottom of the bucket to tie things up going into the second quarter.

Second Quarter: Only three points were scored in the first five minutes, but the Big Red soon went on a 9-0 run started by a Cooch three and a Morgan Kress layup to go up 18-12 with four minutes to go. A pair of free throws from Ada Taute and Violet Mitchell, along with a layup from Cooch gave Denison a 27-21 lead going into the half. Denison held a 10-0 advantage in fast break points in the first half, and had four second chance points to the Polar Bears zero.

Third Quarter: Three-point specialist Adelyn Moore kicked off the third quarter with a big-time three to increase the lead to nine, but the Polar Bears would then score four-straight to cut the deficit to five. Denison would quickly turn that into an 8-2 run headlined by a pair of Molly Dorighi free throws and capped off by a made layup from Taute. Ohio Northern would storm back, and cut the deficit to just one entering the fourth quarter, 40-39.

Fourth Quarter: In what was the biggest run of the game, Denison started out the fourth quarter going on a 14-3 run with crucial buckets from Moore and Mitchell to give Denison a 54-42 lead with five minutes to go in the game. Ohio Northern would try to creep back in, but timely defense and efficient free throw shooting from Cooch gave the Big Red their sixth win of the season, 63-54.
