GRANVILLE, Ohio (January 25, 2025) – Facing a formidable opponent in No. 14-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University, Denison University women's basketball dropped a tough 75-59 decision in front of an energized crowd inside Livingston Gymnasium. The Big Red now hold an 11-7 overall record and 4-3 in the NCAC, while Ohio Wesleyan improves to 16-2 overall and remains undefeated in conference play at 7-0.
The game was part of the Denison women's basketball celebration of National Girls & Women in Sports Day, with athletes from multiple women's athletic programs at Denison in attendance, contributing to a lively atmosphere.
Denison shone brightest in the second quarter, outscoring the Battling Bishops 21-16. The Big Red's sharp shooting was on full display as they connected on 69.2% of their field goal attempts during the period, including three three-pointers. A balanced attack and high energy sparked a rally that cut into Ohio Wesleyan's early lead, narrowing the margin to 32-28 by halftime.
Sophmore Violet Mitchell led the charge with 17 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting performance, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Fellow Sophmore Adelyn Moore came off the bench to add 16 points, highlighted by clutch baskets during the Big Red's second-quarter surge. Senior Bryana Woodard was a key player in the paint, finishing strong on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and 2-for-2 at the free throw line, thanks to her teammates feeding her well-timed passes down low. Woodard also secured five rebounds and added a steal to her impactful performance.
Ohio Wesleyan utilized their size and depth, with Elizabeth Homan scoring a game-high 24 points and Macy Miller adding 18 points and 13 rebounds. The Battling Bishops also capitalized on turnovers, converting 25 points off Denison's miscues.
The Big Red will take a week off before returning to action on Saturday, February 1, when they host rival Kenyon College for Senior Day. Tipoff is set for 3:00 PM inside Livingston Gymnasium.
