Dominant Weekend for Women’s Squash, Highlighted by Wins Over Haverford and Connecticut College


MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (Jan. 18-19) — Denison University women's squash team put on an exceptional display over the weekend, taking on No. 26 Haverford College, No. 28 Connecticut College, and No. 22 Wesleyan University in a series of thrilling matches. The Big Red showcased their depth and talent, securing two commanding victories while facing stiff competition in the final match.
 
Denison 9, Haverford College 0
 
Denison opened the weekend with a flawless performance against Haverford, sweeping all nine matches to claim a 9-0 victory. Charlotte Jones set the tone at the top spot, winning 3-0 (11-4, 11-2, 11-2) in just 12 minutes. Amelia Keng, Tess Lanza, and Virginia Lawrence were equally impressive, each earning 3-0 wins. Antoinette Ramsey showed resilience at 2S, bouncing back from a second-game loss to win 3-1 (11-8, 4-11, 11-9, 11-9). Lane Harding and Madeleine Ruggie also delivered dominant 3-0 wins, helping Denison cap off a perfect start to the weekend.
 
Denison 8, Connecticut College 1
 
In their second match, Denison overcame a spirited effort from Connecticut College to secure an 8-1 victory. Charlotte Jones remained unbeaten, cruising to a 3-0 (11-3, 11-3, 11-1) win in just 11 minutes. Antoinette Ramsey and Amelia Keng followed with strong performances at 2S and 3S, earning 3-1 and 3-0 wins, respectively. The longest and most intense battle of the day came at 4S, where Tess Lanza edged out Gwyneth Perez-Perez in a five-game thriller (5-11, 9-11, 11-5, 15-13, 3-11) to secure the victory. Virginia Lawrence, Charlotte Sigg, and Madeleine Ruggie each added convincing 3-0 wins, while Lane Harding wrapped up the match with a quick 3-0 victory at 8S.
 
Wesleyan University 8, Denison 1
 
The Big Red faced their toughest challenge against a formidable Wesleyan squad, falling 8-1. Despite the result, Charlotte Jones continued her stellar weekend with another 3-0 sweep (11-6, 11-4, 11-3) at the top of the ladder. Virginia Lawrence put up a strong fight at 6S, taking her opponent to five games before narrowly falling (11-2, 10-12, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9). Other standout efforts came from Antoinette Ramsey and Amelia Keng, who pushed their Wesleyan opponents in tightly contested matches. Despite the loss, Denison demonstrated resilience and competitiveness throughout the lineup.
 
Weekend Highlights
 
Charlotte Jones emerged as the standout player of the weekend, going undefeated with three straight-game wins at the No. 1 spot. Teammates Amelia Keng, Tess Lanza, Virginia Lawrence, and Charlotte Sigg also contributed significantly, with key wins that underscored Denison's strength across the lineup.
With two strong wins and a valiant effort against a nationally ranked opponent, Denison continues to build momentum for the season ahead. The Big Red will face-off against No. 25 Chatham University on Feb. 1
